Mayor dismisses allegations made by DA

SASOLBURG - “There is no truth in the allegations made by the Democratic Alliance (DA) against the ANC led municipality,” these were the words of the Executive Mayor of Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Cllr. Brutus Mahlaku, dismissing allegations made by the DA Councillor, Jacob Mahlangu, that the municipality has been neglecting residents in Amelia for eight years without water, electricity, sanitation, roads, clinics and schools.

“These allegations are baseless and very misleading and also under estimate the intelligence of our people at Amelia.

"The truth and the facts of these matters raised by the DA is that we are a very caring and responsible government and is taking our people very serious, as we strive to better their lives,” said Mayor Mahlaku.

In a statement by Cllr. Jacob Mahlangu he said “Ward 19 Amelia residents have been forgotten by their municipality and by their province ANC government. ANC only remembers this community when they are campaigning forlocal and provincial elections.

"The Free State premier and the president have been promising the people of Amelia that they will get basic service delivery and nothing has come out of those promises.

Subsequently, the Mayor said “we don’t make promises as the ANC led government, but we make commitments and honour whatever we committed to do for our people.

We are in constant communication with our people through ward meetings, public participation programmes, the newspapers, radio and other media platforms. Our people in Amelia, do have access to clean and drinkable water, roads and sanitation.”

According to the mayor, the municipality has built houses for people and have built a electricity power station which will supply electricity to Amelia and Mooidraai and surrounding areas.
