 24 MARCH 2018

The Executive Mayor of Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Cllr Lindiwe Tshongwe has learned with shock and sadness of the sudden and untimely death of Cllr Luigi Gaigher.  He and Cllr Kamohelo Thulo, who is serving at the Fezile Dabi District Municipality were on their way to Bloemfontein for a meeting. They were involved in a head-on collision between Koppies and Sasolburg this morning  (Saturday, 24 March 2018) and Cllr Gaigher died on the scene. Cllr Thulo sustained injuries and were airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg.

Gaigher, the Councillor of Ward 18 in Sasolburg, devoted his life to serving his community. This is indeed a serious loss not only for the family or his political party (Democratic Alliance – DA), but also for the community of Metsimaholo municipality and the Free State province, says Cllr Tshongwe.

Cllr Gaigher was a dedicated and selfless servant of the people of Metsimaholo and served them until his ultimate death.

His death is devastating news, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this deeply saddening time. Cllr Tshongwe also wish Cllr Thulo a speedy recovery.
